Personal Development – Your Perception IS Your Reality!
My associate forwarded me an email the other day, and was laughing at the fact that one of his friend was going to this personal development ‘thing’. So I scanned the email – half joking to myself, when some of the verbiage really caught my attention and I realized there was nothing funny about this e-mail. However my associate’s opinion of it being funny had momentarily influenced my thoughts about it, and while I was looking for the joke, I realized, wow, this is some incredible stuff. He later admitted that he never really read the email.
The point to this is that many times we take things for granted not really knowing or understanding their value. My associate is somewhat successful and although he has gone through many personal development seminars he has drawn the conclusion that in order to be successful in life, you just have to take action.
However, I truly believe that if he practiced more principles surrounding many of the seminars he has gone to, he would be much more successful than he is now.
The email focused on one reason why we may or may not be successful. It dwelled upon our character and or our flaws of our character. It suggested that if our character is not 100% in tact then we will have many challenges in our desire to succeed. Wow, was the factor I came away with.
It also suggested that if we developed a character that was our perfect self… what would that perfect self character change in our life once they entered. Would they change our life-style, our relationships, our patterns, our eating habits, our daily routine. Are we lazy? Do we procrastinate? Do we make too many excuses, poor choices, are un-organized, or late? The question was so simple, however the impact it had on my thoughts were probably life changing.
For example, I am in transition of moving. And in the process of deciding between two houses, two school districts, etc., I have stuff everywhere, and I thought to myself, that my perfect ‘character’ would walk right into my life and start straightening up immediately. I have a tendency to be too busy to straighten up certain parts of the house, and or I will wait to pay someone to do my dirty work.
However I also understand the law of order and that the first law of the universe is order. Just like the first law of money is to pay yourself 10% first, then save and at some point make wise investments — and these first laws I tend to break time and time again…. And I know better!
I understand that the more you know the more you are responsible for. On our path to success, we have to look around and ask ourselves what are our character flaws? Are we misrepresenting who we are? Are we really giving our best? Am I committed to my present relationship, my job, my education, my chosen success path? What will it take for me to be truly happy? Once we are present and very truthful with our answers, then and only then can we move forward with the life we truly really want to create. Until then we will remain stuck in the mediocre mood.
And if your life is not reflective of all that you say you want or even go after, then your character is flawed and that is what is interacting with the world, and until you get that right.. nothing else will be right…As always
